Peel and Stick Wallpaper FAQ
Everything you need to know about choosing, hanging, removing and caring for our peel and stick wallpaper.
About the Wallpaper
What is the wallpaper made of?
It's a textured canvas vinyl with the adhesive already on the back, so there's no paste and nothing to soak. Every order is printed in our studio with water based latex inks and cut as one batch, so the color stays consistent from panel to panel.
Is it renter friendly?
Yes. Put it up in your apartment and peel it off when you move out. On sound, cured paint it comes away cleanly, so you can leave the walls the way you found them. If your walls are older or the paint is chalky, try a sample in a corner first.
Which scale should I choose?
Many of our patterns come in two scales. Large (24 in repeat) suits a full wall or a big room. Small (12 in repeat) shows the same pattern at half the size, which works best in a powder room, a nook or a single feature wall. A sample of each is the easiest way to decide.
Should I order a sample first?
Yes, we strongly recommend it. A 12 x 12 in sample lets you check the color in your own light and test how the adhesive holds on your paint. Because every order is made just for you, wallpaper can't be returned, so a sample is the best way to be sure before you buy.
Where It Works
Where can I use the wallpaper?
Just about anywhere indoors! It sticks to clean, dry, painted walls of any sheen, flat paint included. Walls should be primed, painted and cured, so wait 30 days after fresh paint before hanging. Avoid brick, unpainted cement, unprimed drywall and heavily textured walls.
Does it stick to textured walls?
Light texture is fine. The canvas texture of our wallpaper hides fine orange peel, filled nail holes and roller marks, so most walls only need a wipe down. Heavy texture like knockdown or popcorn won't hold well; smooth it, prime and repaint first. Some “easy to clean” or scrubbable paints have additives that fight the adhesive, so if you're not sure what's on your walls, test a sample first.
Can I use it in a bathroom or kitchen?
Yes, on dry walls. A powder room, a bathroom wall away from the shower, or a kitchen wall that isn't behind the stove or sink all work well. Rooms that stay damp and walls that get splashed or greasy won't hold the adhesive for long, so keep it out of showers, and keep steam out of the room for the first day after hanging.
Can I use it in a nursery?
Yes, with some precautions! If you're installing wallpaper above a crib, make sure it's extra secure. If you notice any lifting, reinforce the tops of the panels with a few discreet push pins for peace of mind.
Measuring and Hanging
How do I know how many panels I need?
Easy math!
- Measure the width of your wall in inches. For a full room, measure each wall individually and total them up.
- Divide that number by 24 (each panel covers about 24 in once it overlaps the next one).
- Round up to the nearest whole number. That's how many panels you need!
Then choose the panel length just above your wall height, so you have a few inches to trim at the ceiling and baseboard. Lengths come in 2 ft steps. When measuring around doors or windows, just pretend they're not there. You'll trim around them during install for a seamless look.
How do I hang it?
Draw a plumb line about 24 inches from the corner. Peel a foot of backing from the first panel, set its left edge on the line with a couple of inches spare at the ceiling, and smooth it down from the center out as you pull the backing away. Lay each next panel over the right edge of the one before by about 3/4 in, matching the pattern, then trim top and bottom with a sharp blade.
Can I reposition the wallpaper if I make a mistake?
Yes, that's one of the biggest benefits of peel and stick. If a panel isn't aligned correctly, gently peel it back and lay it again. Lift it rather than sliding it, and reposition sooner rather than later, as the adhesive strengthens over time.
Do I need to hire someone to install it?
Nope, not at all! Our wallpaper is designed to be beginner friendly, and we include printed instructions to guide you through it step by step. You've got this!
If you do decide to hire an installer, just make sure they read our instructions before getting started. We can't be responsible for any mistakes made during third party installations.
Removal and Care
How do I remove the wallpaper?
Start at a top corner and peel the wallpaper back at a low angle, keeping it close to the wall. Pull slowly and steadily, because rushing can cause paint to lift. Any adhesive left behind wipes off with warm soapy water.
What if the paint starts pulling off when I remove it?
Stop pulling. Warm that area with a hair dryer on low heat for a few seconds to soften the adhesive, then keep peeling slowly at a low angle, warming as you go. Older or chalky paint is more likely to lift, which is why we suggest testing a sample in a corner first.
How do I clean the wallpaper?
Dust it with a dry cloth and wipe marks with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive scrubbers, or soaking the surface with water, as these can affect the adhesive or the print. Give the adhesive 24 to 48 hours to fully grab before you wipe along the seams.
Orders and Returns
How long does it take to get my wallpaper?
All wallpaper orders are made just for you, so please allow up to 7 business days for production (excluding weekends and holidays). During big sitewide sales, production can take a bit longer, so plan accordingly! Samples usually ship out quicker but may still fall within the 7 business day window.
Can I return or exchange wallpaper?
Because each wallpaper order is custom made, we don't accept returns, exchanges, or refunds. That's why we always recommend ordering a sample first! If you believe there was a mistake with your order, please let us know within 30 days and we'll make it right.
What if my order arrives damaged?
Please photograph the damage and contact us within 30 days of delivery. We'll work quickly to resolve the issue.
A Note on Our Guarantee
Because the skill of application, surface paints and primers, textures, and site conditions vary so much and are out of our control, our wallpaper holds no warranty or guarantee. We strongly recommend purchasing a sample first to ensure it works with your paint and surface. Customers who choose to order wallpaper without ordering a sample first are proceeding with the knowledge and acceptance that the wallpaper is not eligible for return, exchange, or refund for any reason, including color, pattern, or scale variances from our listings, installation errors, or the ability of the wallpaper to adhere for any length of time.
